It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to listen to real and good surf rock. But with The Atavists’ new single, Time, we’re getting the chance to take a step back in time and remember why we loved it so much.
The Atavists is an independent surf rock band based out of Prague, Czech Republic. They’re known for their catchy and upbeat melodies with strong male vocals that are sure to get stuck in your head and heart. We just loved it!
Their sound is often described as alternative rock, but they also incorporate elements of stoner rock and art rock into their music, synths and effects. The single Time is great, but the track Bad Time is amazing too.
About the music style of their new single Time, we can say it is the perfect example of this eclectic mix—you’ll hear influences from early 90’s grunge bands like Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots alongside modern artists like Weezer and Panic! at the Disco.

Atavists is a surf rock band from the Czech Republic. With their intense live shows, The Atavists quickly established themselves as one of the most prolific indie bands in the Czech Republic by the end of 2014.
With a baritone voice, menacing guitar sounds, an electric organ and a hard-hitting rhythm section, Adam Krofian’s music have a distinct sound. They have reached the finals of festivals like the International Battle Of The Bands in Berlin.
They then performed at several major Czech festivals and also opened for the Norwegian band Kvelertak. In early 2016, the Atavists released their debut album “Bad Times” to positive critical acclaim.
A famous Czech venue, Lucerna, hosted them later that year as an opening act for Biffy Clyro. In March 2018, the band released its second album entitled “Lo-Fi Life.” It was produced by veteran sound engineer Amak Golden and was praised by both the press and the fans. In 2019 The Atavists won two Anděl Awards (Czech equivalent of the Grammys) – Best new act and Best Rock Album (for Lo-Fi Life).
Radio airplay was also strong for their lead single Wrong from their second album Lo-Fi Life. Repeatedly, it topped the charts of the Evropa2 radio station (the most popular mainstream radio station in the Czech Republic).
The Atavists were chosen by Muse’s management for their Prague stop on their Simulation Theory tour 2019 at Letnany Airport in May 2019. During the month of July, the band supported the band Skunk Anansie at Forum Karlin in Prague. Currently, the band is in the spotlight of foreign promoters and is preparing to tour Central and Western Europe.
