John E Vistic Trades One-Take Acoustic Songs for Saxophone and Grunge Noise on In a Minute
The British Songwriter Reunites with Tom Hackwell for a Grunge Single About Waiting
His last album was one man and a guitar, recorded in single takes. Now John E Vistic has turned the band back on. In a Minute, out on 30 October 2026, runs two minutes and 40 seconds of grunge and punk. Saxophone and synths sit over guitar, bass and drums. It is the first single from MONSTERS, his album due in 2027.
John E Vistic’s In a Minute is in our punk rock playlist below, and the full run of coverage lives on the John E Vistic artist profile. The single came to this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news sites. Listen to it first, then read on for the catalogue behind it.

John E Vistic Built a Catalogue of More Than 20 Releases Before In a Minute Arrived
The numbers come first. His Bandcamp page lists 20 releases, starting with The Ghost of St.Pauls in 2013. Apple Music carries more than 20 singles, EPs and albums from 2019 onwards. John E Vistic is a singer-songwriter based in Bristol, United Kingdom, and he fronts his band, the Rock N Roll Soundsystem.
The early run leaned on studio pedigree. Modern Love, from 2015, was recorded straight to tape with Ali Chant and produced by Paul Corkett, whose credits include Nick Cave and The Cure. Then came a long run of singles in 2020 and 2021. Titles such as King of Rock N Roll, Psycho Death Kult and KING KURT (Teen Spirit) led into the album Under the Volcano.
That album matters here, because Tom Hackwell produced it. It took its name from Malcolm Lowry’s novel and featured the full band. Dan Clibery played drums, Bex Sneddon saxophone, Rob Norbury guitars and Graham Dalzell bass. John E Vistic covered vocals, guitars, piano, synth and more.
The last two years split in two directions. DAS UBERMENSCH, a punk record, arrived in September 2024, and that autumn he supported Mudhoney on five UK dates. Around it sat two quiet albums. Ten Simple Songs About Death, from May 2024, put ten acoustic songs on record with vocals and guitar in a single live take. Man of Ill Repute followed in 2025 with the same one-take method, adding only piano and backing vocals.

In a Minute Brings Back the Band, Tom Hackwell and the Quiet Loud Dynamics of Grunge
So the change is easy to measure. After an album built around one voice and one guitar, In a Minute is a full-band record again. John E Vistic wrote the words and music and leads the band, and Tom Hackwell produced it, five years after Under the Volcano.
The sound is old-school grunge and punk with a 2026 twist. Saxophone and synths sit on top of a heavy guitar, bass and drums attack. Meanwhile, the song swings between quiet and loud passages. He delivers the lyric like a charge sheet, in no mood to wait. It came out through the Deaf Endling Collective, with distribution from Earache. Louder Than War premiered the video on release day and gave the single four and a half stars out of five.
That quiet-loud swing has a famous source. Nirvana‘s Kurt Cobain said he wrote Smells Like Teen Spirit as an attempt at the ultimate pop song, taking the soft-and-loud dynamics of the Pixies. John E Vistic named a 2021 single KING KURT (Teen Spirit), so the debt is out in the open. In a Minute applies the same switch in under three minutes.
The other reference point he has seen up close, from the support slot on their 2024 tour. Mudhoney‘s early Sub Pop releases, above all their debut single Touch Me I’m Sick, helped create grunge. The same rough melody runs under In a Minute.

Time Running Out Is the Through-Line of the John E Vistic Catalogue, Up to In a Minute
What links the run is a subject. Ten Simple Songs About Death named it outright. DAS UBERMENSCH carried a track called Tick Tock Goes The Clock. Now In a Minute is about the distractions that keep people waiting for life to start instead of living it. The volume changes from record to record, but the clock stays in the frame.
The reading list stays too. His titles borrow from Nietzsche and Malcolm Lowry, and his acoustic records draw on Beckett, Shakespeare and Greek myth. MONSTERS looks set to keep that habit, with life and death again at the centre.
So this is a single for listeners who came up on Nirvana, Mudhoney and the Pixies and want new British rock with the same push. It is also a good entry point for anyone who has only heard his quieter records.
RockCharts.News’s curator team: “Play In a Minute straight after Pontiac Driving Man, the bar-room piano single from his last album. The jump from one man at a piano to a full band with saxophone shows exactly how far this single moves.”
In a Minute is a song about not waiting, and he did not wait long to prove it. Less than eighteen months after an album of one-take acoustic songs, the band is back at full volume.
