Feel the Resurgence of 90’s Rock in the Latest Album from Schenectady’s Own Twelve Days in June
Twelve Days in June is back and better than ever, launching straight out of Schenectady, NY, with their fourth studio album, ‘Hiraeth.’ The band is steeped in the raw, evocative essence of 90’s Rock and has expertly captured the era’s alternative sound, making their way into the hearts of both nostalgic fans and new listeners.
“Hiraeth,” a 13-song masterpiece set for release on October 18, 2024, is a loud, guitar-heavy follow-up to last year’s ‘La Luna.’ Produced by Ben Hirschfield, known for his work with Present, The Story So Far, and Against Me!, this album brilliantly harnesses the gritty, alternative rock vibe of the 90s.

Songs like “Numb,” “Magic Hour,” “The Day I Learned Your Name,” “Going Home,” and “Blush” invite you deep into a pit filled with nostalgia and raw emotion. You can listen to our full playlist which contains the artists’ music, and know more about the artist’s work by scrolling down the page.

“When I first started writing songs back in the mid-90s, it was sort of in protest to the changing landscape of post-Nirvana alternative rock,” said Dave Hulegaard, the band’s frontman. “Most of my favourite bands had either broken up or had drastically changed their sound and I was sad about it. With the millennium on the horizon, I wasn’t ready to leave the 90s behind and Twelve Days in June was my way of keeping them alive. I guess that’s still true today.”

As music curators at PopHits.Co, we believe that “Hiraeth” represents a monumental effort in the indie rock scene. “Twelve Days in June delivers a sound so authentic and electrifying, it stands as a beacon of 90s alternative rock nostalgia. Their ability to weave together elements of grunge, shoegaze, and dream pop into a cohesive and powerful sonic journey is unparalleled.”
Comparisons to iconic bands like The Smashing Pumpkins and The Foo Fighters don’t seem out of place when you immerse yourself in this album’s layered, rich soundscapes. The tracks from “Hiraeth” encapsulate a wide array of emotions and themes, from grief and isolation to nihilism and mortality.

As Hulegaard says, “Hiraeth is a record that fills a gap in my personal music collection. It’s a big and loud sonic juggernaut that explores themes of grief, isolation, nihilism, and mortality, like one long therapy session. Crank it up and buckle up!” This confession highlights not just the personal but universal emotional connection that the album aims to evoke in its listeners.

What sets Twelve Days in June apart is their commitment to revisiting and revitalizing the 90s rock scene. With genuine passion and the skilled hands of Ben Hirschfield on the production, the band walks the line between paying homage and innovating within the genre. They are creating a time capsule that reminds us why we fell in love with alternative rock while pushing the boundaries just enough to keep us on the edge of our seats.
