Will You Be Missing Me Enters the Post-Punk Conversation

The Hamilton Duo Leave Folk and Country for Mid-Eighties English Post-Punk

Fourteen years into playing together, Sara Dishart and Filthy Rich have changed lane. Will You Be Missing Me? came out on 1 May 2026, and it is the first release where the duo drop the acoustic, folk and country footing their catalogue was built on. In its place they put mid-1980s English post-punk, and they wrote, recorded, mixed and mastered all of it in their own home studio in Hamilton, Ontario.

Sara Dishart and Filthy Rich’s music is in the playlist below, and the duo’s coverage is kept on the Sara Dishart and Filthy Rich artist profile. Will You Be Missing Me? reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news sites. Start it playing, then carry on below.

Where the Catalogue Sat Before Will You Be Missing Me

The run to here is longer than a debut. Sara Dishart and Filthy Rich have performed together since 2012, most durably in Blood Roses alongside Cleave Anderson, Martin Von Wutheanau and Aly Livingston. In 2023 they tracked with Hamilton mainstay Michael Keire at Threshold Recording Studio. They played the main stage at the Festival of Friends in Gage Park in August 2024, and again in August 2025.

Their own catalogue holds the comparison. Letter to Rajani and She Runs Wild, both out in January 2023, sit on the folk and country side of the ledger. That is where the duo have spent most of their recorded life. Will You Be Missing Me? does not extend that line. It steps off it.

That step is not a first attempt at playing out, either. Two consecutive main-stage appearances at a city festival, a decade of rooms, and a studio session with a local producer are the kind of run that usually hardens a band into its existing sound rather than moving it.

The production is the clearest measure of the move. Programmed retro drum patterns carry the track, live percussion thickens them, and for the bassline the duo run a Hofner through a vintage stereo Dimension C pedal. That is a specific set of choices, not a general change of mood. Nothing in the folk material asked for a chorus pedal on the bass.

What Held, and What the Steel Town Has to Do With It

One thing did not move. Sara Dishart’s lyrics still run on love, longing and the prospect of loss, and the vocal still carries its country edge, closer to the lineage of Emmylou Harris and Julee Cruise than to anything on the records the arrangement points at. That contrast is the whole trick: a country voice over a post-punk canvas, rather than a duo doing an impression of a British band.

The reference points sit where the duo say they sit. Cocteau Twins for the guitar treatment and the way the atmosphere comes out of effects rather than volume. The Cure for the pulse in the bass. And Mazzy Star for the pace, and the way a vocal can sit half a step behind the beat and still lead the song.

The other constant is the city. The duo place the record in Hamilton’s working history rather than in Manchester’s.

“There’s a beautiful ‘steel town’ image here where artists work their day jobs and play their gigs at night. More dirt, less refinement, and the road is gravel, not smooth. Legendary local bands like Teenage Head, Forgotten Rebels, and Simply Saucer built that blueprint. While our sound is stylistically different, that exact Hamilton heartbeat is the underlying engine of this track,” says Filthy Rich.

The RockCharts.News curator team: “The self-production is the number that matters here. A duo who spent a decade in folk rooms taught themselves a genre and then cut it themselves, at home, well enough to press. That is a harder move than hiring the sound in, and it is why this reads as a change of direction rather than a costume.”

Where to Hear Will You Be Missing Me and the Rest of the Catalogue

The track travelled from a homegrown demo and a self-shot video onto physical wax. That is the part of the story the duo are proudest of, and the part that is hardest to fake.

For a listener the useful order is chronological. Play the folk material first and the departure lands properly. Play this one cold and it is simply a good post-punk single.

A compilation has also picked the track up, setting it against the louder rock material as the quieter, more mournful entry. That is a reasonable read of it, and a fair account of what the duo have added to their catalogue rather than repeated in it.

Will You Be Missing Me? is on Spotify, alongside the rest of the catalogue on their Spotify artist page and on Bandcamp, where the duo release first. The rest of the videos are on their YouTube channel, and the duo post on Facebook.
