Where Scarecrowz Sits After Husk in a Catalogue That Runs Back to 2001
Ger Madden Has Fronted Every Scarecrowz Record, and Husk Brings a New Rhythm Section
Husk is the newest entry in a Scarecrowz catalogue that starts with Of Wind and Shadow in December 2001. The Ottawa band released it on 6 June 2025, four years after Dusk of Another Dawn. It holds to the hard rock and heavy metal the band has played since that first record. This time, a rhythm section new to the credits plays on it.
Scarecrowz’s Clutter, the opening track of Husk, is in the playlist below, and the band’s full coverage history sits on the Scarecrowz profile. Husk reached RockCharts.News through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news titles. Press play on Clutter, then read on for where the band sits now.

From Of Wind and Shadow in 2001 to Husk in 2025, the Scarecrowz Catalogue Moves in Steps
The run begins with Of Wind and Shadow, released on 1 December 2001. Jason Plager and Tracey Holmes produced, engineered and mixed it across sessions in March and October that year. At that point, the line-up was Ger Madden on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, J.P. Proulx on bass, Leon Howse on lead guitar and Duane Chusroskie on drums.
The next few years were short-form. A live set from the Emergenza band competition in Ottawa, recorded on 8 May 2003, became Live @ Barrymore’s. Release followed in August 2003 with six tracks, and Stitch came in March 2005 with seven. Then the three-track EP Where Evil Grows appeared in November 2007, and a second live record, Live @ Zaphod’s, in April 2008. Finally, a Best Of 2001-2008 gathered 18 tracks in 2010.
After that, the records got longer. Dave Maltais produced Uprising at DKM Studios in 2012, after sessions that ran from February to June, and it carried 11 tracks. Refuel arrived in February 2018 with 14 tracks, the longest record in the catalogue. It took 18 months of recording, mixing and mastering at Le Cave and Studio 45, and it was the first album credited as produced by Scarecrowz. Dusk of Another Dawn followed in March 2021 with 11 tracks, recorded across 2019 and 2020 at Oxymoron and Jam Barn Studios. Meanwhile, singles filled the gaps: Reborn in 2014, Let’s Party Tonight and Skywalk in 2020, and On & On in April 2025, six weeks before Husk.

A New Rhythm Section Under Ger Madden and Reno D’Santie Is What Changed on Husk
Husk changes the band around Madden once more. On Dusk of Another Dawn, Scarecrowz worked as a trio. Madden sang and played rhythm guitar, while Reno D’Santie played lead and rhythm guitar. Sebastien Christensen covered drums, bass and acoustic guitar, and he also mixed the record.
On Husk, by contrast, Trevor St. Peter plays bass and Aansen Harrison plays drums and percussion. As a result, the rhythm section is now two dedicated players. D’Santie stays on lead and rhythm guitar, and Zac Bryan plays bass on Degeneration.
The production split shifts as well. Scarecrowz produced the album, and D’Santie, St. Peter and Bryan engineered it inside the band. However, the mix and master went outside, to Rohan Despande. In total, the record holds 10 tracks across about 46 minutes, from Clutter to Dark. That compares with 11 tracks on Dusk of Another Dawn and 14 on Refuel.

Ger Madden on Every Record and Self-Production Since 2018 Form the Scarecrowz Through-Line
The constant is Madden. He sings lead on every record from 2001 to 2025, and he is the only player from the 2001 debut still in the band. Around him, the line-up has turned over again and again. Across the four albums with full credits, Of Wind and Shadow, Refuel, Dusk of Another Dawn and Husk, four different players hold the bass role. Likewise, four different players sit at the drums.
Two other threads carry from one record to the next. Since Refuel, Scarecrowz has produced its own albums. In addition, since Dusk of Another Dawn, Rachael Chandler of Artistik Vibe has made the artwork, and D’Santie has played lead guitar.
Two Ontario acts show how that kind of catalogue holds together. Annihilator, formed in Ottawa in 1984 by Jeff Waters, has released 17 studio albums. Through many line-up changes, Waters has stayed its sole constant member. Similarly, Helix formed in Kitchener in 1974 and is best known for the 1984 single Rock You. Singer Brian Vollmer is its only constant member. Scarecrowz runs on the same model at an independent scale: the founder holds the name, and the band around him changes from record to record.
RockCharts.News’s curator team:
“Husk shows where the catalogue stands after 24 years of releases. Ger Madden is still at the front, Reno D’Santie is on his second album at lead guitar, and a rhythm section new to the records sits underneath them.”
