Shannon Hawley releasing Mercy
“I love this single because it has a clear rock sound,” Hawley says. “It’s relatable, and it’s a true collaboration between Hector Gundlach (Nekter Gun) and me.”
This playlist includes musicians from all over the world who are using their own unique styles to make sure you never get bored.

1) MEAT IN SPACE – Chromium Dioxide
The first single from Meat In Space‘s upcoming EP of bombastic rock, all painstakingly recorded to tape, all with a raw, fuzzy, guitar-led DIY sensibility, this is the first taste of what’s to come from his forthcoming EP. Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall, Wavves, Dino Jr., and others are all part of the wheelhouse of this project.
A track with this level of clarity and crispness is not overproduced or polished to the point where it becomes dull. According to early reviews of Chromium Dioxide, it has been described as “Vibey garage noise rock”, “a rad track … on the avant-garde side of grunge” and also, “The boisterous mood and style are super cool”.
Having instrumental breakdowns to break up the songs at the appropriate time adds a great deal of variety to the songs without feeling forced or extraneous.
It’s got a lot of power—the vocals are strong and clear, and the instrumentals are well-balanced between guitars, bass and drums. The track also has a great tempo that keeps things moving along nicely throughout the whole song.
You can check out the single on Spotify or visit his website for more information about the artist and their upcoming tour dates.
2) DOZENZ – Chasing Tigers
A retro-soul/rock song that was inspired by The Beatles, Joe Cocker, and more recently Adele, Chasing Tigers is the first release from Dozenz‘ second album released in 2023.
Chasing Tigers is a firm favourite with fans of Dozenz and a departure from the hip-hop-infused sounds of the first Dozenz album. In addition, Chasing Tigers is the first of several collaborations between Dozenz and J Fitz who brings an authentic and genuine soul/rock performance to this album.

This is definitely one of my favourite songs from Dozenz, and if you’re looking for something new to listen to, I highly recommend checking out his website or following him on Spotify!
3) ASSURANCE – From Ruin
Assurance is a British heavy metal band that’s been around for some time now. They’re known for their gritty, dirty sound, which is rooted in a love of UK culture and history. Their music can be described as “melodic metalcore with a cinematic edge.”
The follow-up to October’s soaring single ‘Facade’, ‘From Ruin’ is an emotional, undulating adventure exploring the transitions we all undergo in life – of loss of love, of growth, of perseverance, and of rebuilding.
”Like tides ebbing and flowing through the night, so too do we all go through changes and cycles. This is, after all, an unavoidable element of the human experience. A voyage on which we all must embark and disembark at times unknown…”
A progressive, powerful track, ‘From Ruin’ showcases Assurance’s potential. With a baritone riffing style influenced by Volumes and Spiritbox, flashes of percussion and ghost notes galore, cutting, visceral vocals echoing Periphery, Architects, Monuments, and more, Assurance’s vocal chops glide over bouncy baritone riff work.

4) BRIDGES ABLAZE – Hellbent
Austin, Texas is one of America’s greatest cities. There are some of the best venues, the coolest music festivals, and the hottest new bands in the world there. It is Bridges Ablaze that has emerged from this eclectic and diverse scene.
Originally formed by Brien Allen and Ruben Zamora, two virtuoso guitarists who don’t limit themselves to one idea. The band is clearly influenced by heavy metal but also displays Jazz, death metal, and other influences.
Hellbent is a song about overcoming adversity. In pursuit of this lifelong dream, we have faced many challenges. In particular, this song is about those who have abused, misled, and betrayed us. In the wake of such painful experiences, the lyrics emphasize the necessity of grit to keep going.

5) ELOHYEK – What’s The Use?
In the South Carolina city of Charleston, there is an experimental alternative rock collective called Elohyek. As a result of Matt “Maku” Hancock’s efforts as a songwriter/producer, the project took shape in 2021.
As a track from their upcoming album, “Evergreen Motel”, song ‘What’s The Use?’ is an example of their upcoming LP, its textural expedition that meshes the mellow vibes of Trip-Hop with the grit and impact of Industrial Rock, all the while remaining sleek and individual as well.
Instruments, vocals, and experimental production throughout all the songs of this album create a weave of soundscapes that are designed to appeal to casual listeners as well as audiophiles.
The song, on the other hand, it’s also a perfect example of their signature grunge-infused indie rock sound. With its heavy guitar riffs and catchy chorus, this song will get stuck in your head and stay there for days.

6) HIGGS FIELD – Us Forever
The song is about love, but it comes from a serial killer’s perspective.
“Us Forever” from Higgs Field takes everything we know about love songs and rewrites them, from love at first sight to cannibalism, and makes them more intriguing than ever.
Adapted from a true story, “Us Forever” starts out as a romance novel, but quickly turns into a Stephan King epic, as it goes deep into the psyche of a killer, seeking connection in the most psychotic way possible.
It is quite possible to miss the subject matter entirely on a first listen as Higgs Field comes out of the gates with a heavy, pop rock ballad full of catchy melodies and grungy vocals that occupy a territory somewhere between Oasis and Metallica.
The release of this phycological love letter comes on the heels of a great year for the band, which included gigs with Aussie heavyweights Spiderbait, Kingswood, and Seth Sentry as well as SA favourites, The Unset.
At the end of 2022, Higgs Field also released a song called ‘Leader in the eye’, which served as a thoughtful, progressive commentary on the preservation of culture in Australia in a thoughtful and progressive way.
I think this song would be perfect for any workout playlist or road trip playlist! You can check out their website, or follow them on Spotify.
7) PRESSURE – All The Things
As a group, Pressure has developed a unique melodic ability, razor-sharp lyrics, as well as heavy music to deal with all the pressures that surround us inside, outside, and all over. The need and urge they have for them to be able to challenge and confront our demons as well as change the kind of faith that the listener has.
There is no stopping Sweden’s Pressure! There is a new beginning for Pressure with the release of “All The Things”. It marks the beginning of a new era for the band, following the release of their newly released album “In A Dark Heart We Trust”, which has had more than 250k streams up until today.
“All The Things” was written as a reflection of the uncompromising urge that can be caused by passion and yearning, when one is inundated with it. As soon as you meet someone, your mind tells you one thing and your heart also tells you the same thing, but different parts of your body tell you that something else needs to be done.
Is it forbidden? Is it bad? No, It is the urge you feel that pushes you to do all the things you do in your life, both good and bad, that give life and meaning to the work you do, because what would life be without a little danger, a little naughty, a little dirty, and a few good experiences?
If you’re looking for something that’s not easy to categorize but still sounds good, check out Pressure! Follow them on Spotify, and visit their website!
8) BENMOZES – IMMIGRANT
BenMozes is a rock band from Boston, Massachusetts. Their new album, Immigrant, has been getting rave reviews from critics across the US. The band has a uniquely heavy sound, and it’s starting to make noise among the alternative rock crowd.
It is a 10-track journey built around explosive riffs, and dark-melodic Rock and Roll, tinged with the highs and lows of life in our age, which makes it undeniably clear that this is not just another rock band, but is something unique.
With a heavy rhythmic pull and growling guitars, ‘IMMIGRANT’ is packed with heavy rhythmic pulls. As the distortions and overdrives are turned up to 11, the brooding vocals wander from low menacing tones to aching cries, whilst the heavy pounding drums capture the attention of anyone within earshot in an instant.
When you play Benmozes’ debut album ‘IMMIGRANT’ on the speakers, there is an undeniable burst of energy that explodes out from the speakers, making it undeniable that this is not just another band specializing in rock music.

9) BETTY MOON – Boilermaker
Betty Moon is a Los Angeles-based rock band that delivers anthemic songs with a garage rock feel. Her latest single, Boilermaker, is no exception.
It has been a busy season for Betty Moon in the studio, working hard on new music for an upcoming album that will be announced in the near future. Meanwhile, she has also released a new cover of the popular song “Boilermaker” that can currently be found on streaming platforms.
Using her sultry voice, she layers the track with subtle nuances musically in order to create a track that is both hypnotic and groove laced that is all hers.
The single is her first release since she released the album ‘Undercover’, an album that featured 10 of Betty Moon’s favourite cover songs collected in an album from the beginning of the year 2022.
“Boilermaker is one of my favourite rock tracks of the modern era, and I was excited to lean into it with my own swagger,” says Moon. “While I prep some of this new material I wanted to put something fresh out there for the fans, and I hope you enjoy the song as much as I did making it for you all.”

10) SHANNON HAWLEY – Mercy
SHANNON HAWLEY is a singer-songwriter based in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. She released her latest single.
A song that has its roots in her native state of New Jersey, “Mercy” does not attempt to emulate a Springsteen song in any way, but it does convey all of the depth and infectiousness of Springsteen’s best songs.
There is something about this piece of songwriting that can mesmerize a small audience or energize a large crowd. “I love this single because it has a clear rock sound,” Hawley says. “It’s relatable, and it’s a true collaboration between Hector Gundlach (Nekter Gun) and me.”
“Mercy” explores her ancestors’ experiences, especially the heartbreak that comes with losing someone young, and Hawley never shies away from challenging subjects. She begins the song from the perspective of her paternal grandmother, who died at 24 from heart failure on Belmar Beach in New Jersey.
