From 2022 Award Winner to Track Five of 2nd Chances, with Billy Cox on Bass

Happy Curmudgeons have moved Rustic Glory further than most independent singles travel. The Detroit band’s acoustic rock song took Gold for Americana/Folk at the 2022 W.A.M. Awards. It then became track five on the 2024 album 2nd Chances. The band puts its count at more than 500,000 streams across Spotify and YouTube, and Billy Cox, the bassist from Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys, plays on it.

Happy Curmudgeons hold a spot in the playlist below with Rustic Glory, and the band’s artist profile tracks their run across the network. The song came to RockCharts.News through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news titles. Hit play on it, then read on for the catalogue.

Where Rustic Glory Sits in the Happy Curmudgeons Catalogue, From the 2017 Singles to 2nd Chances

The catalogue starts well before the album. On Spotify, the earliest Happy Curmudgeons entries are more than ten singles dated within one week at the end of 2017. For example, titles such as Soulsville, 3rd Coast, Burn Sugar Burn and Bar Hoppin point to bar-band, blues and soul roots. After that, I Know How You Feel followed in 2021. The band itself, however, dates to 2015, when it began as a group of friends who shared a passion for music.

Then the run changed shape. Rustic Glory arrived as a single in 2022 and won Gold in the Americana/Folk song category at that year’s W.A.M. Awards. When the band pushed the song again in July 2023, Music Arena GH listed the core line-up. Dave Hamilton sang and played guitars, Amy Dixon-Lavery sang, Jeff Warner added vocals, guitar and mandolin, and Tumbleweed played harmonica.

The 2023 Singles That Built 2nd Chances

That summer turned into a steady run of singles. In mid-July, KIMU wrote up I Know How You Feel as a new single built on two acoustic guitars and a fretless bass. Ten days later, Rising Artists covered All On You, a song Jeff Warner first wrote more than twenty years earlier. In August, the title track 2nd Chances followed. Writing for Os Garotos de Liverpool, Elio Sant’Anna placed it between alt-country, soft rock and folk, with music by Dave Hamilton and words by Amy Dixon-Lavery. Lost In The Manor added the band to its rock picks the same month.

The album followed on 26 July 2024 through Spectra Music Group. It is the band’s second album, with ten tracks across 37 minutes. Reluctant Prophets opens it, and the title track is the longest cut at 5:26. Rustic Glory sits at track five, at 4:34, between All On You and Jack Russell. Finally, the record closes on an acoustic version of 2nd Chances, so it ends where its lead single began.

The song then moved again. In February 2025 the band posted an official music video for Rustic Glory on YouTube. That gave a song first released in 2022 a third window: single, album track and video.

The Guest Players and Detroit Mastering That Tie Rustic Glory to the Rest of the Happy Curmudgeons Run

What changed on Rustic Glory is the personnel. First, Billy Cox holds the low end on bass. Meanwhile, Bobby Balderrama of Question Mark & The Mysterians plays lead guitar. Jim Moose Brown, known for work with Bob Seger and Vince Gill, adds Hammond B3. Finally, Todd Glass, who has played with Robert Gordon and Link Wray, is on drums. Four outside names on one track is a heavy guest count for an independent band.

In contrast, the finishing chain is the constant. Bill Skibbe mastered every 2nd Chances song at Jack White’s Third Man Records in Detroit. The album is also available on limited red vinyl.

The through-line is the mix of acoustic guitar and a full rock band. Fans of the acoustic side of Neil Young, from the Harvest era onward, will recognise the balance of a strummed lead instrument inside a band arrangement. Likewise, listeners who followed John Mellencamp into the roots instruments of The Lonesome Jubilee will find a similar habit of folding Americana colour into rock songs. Happy Curmudgeons work in that space, and Rustic Glory is the clearest example in their catalogue.

Where to Stream Rustic Glory and Follow Happy Curmudgeons Across Every Platform

The audience follows from that. In short, the song is for fans of classic rock, folk and Americana who want a story in the lyric and care about who is playing on the record. On those terms, Rustic Glory holds its place. It has been an award single in 2022, an album cut in 2024 and a video in 2025, and all three point back to the same four and a half minutes.

From the RockCharts.News curator team: “Watch the radio side of this run. The band lists seven SiriusXM channels that have played its music, from Underground Garage to North Americana, and that spread across formats is what keeps a 2022 single in circulation in 2026.”
