Hazy Waters Blue Turns the Whole Shoegaze Toolkit Towards Joy

London Trio Trade Grey Shoegaze Weather for a Bright Indie Pop Rush

“When I love you like this.” That hook arrives early on blue and then refuses to leave, which is exactly the point. hazy waters released the single on 8 July 2026. It is the sound of a shoegaze band deciding that reverb can carry happiness as well as it carries longing. The guitars still glisten. The mood underneath them has changed.

hazy waters are on the playlist below, and the trio’s artist profile shows how the London catalogue is shaping up. The single blue arrived at this desk by way of PopHits.Co Music Charts, the programme that verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news sites. Put it on for the hook that refuses to leave, then keep reading for what changed underneath the reverb.

What Hazy Waters Blue Does Differently From the Rest of the Field

Shoegaze has a default emotional setting, and it is wistful. Walls of guitar, buried vocals, a general sense of looking backwards. It is a genre built for melancholy, and most bands working in it stay there.

blue moves the other way. hazy waters keep the textural approach, the glistening production and the expansive guitar work, then aim all of it at pure elation. So the result is a heart-on-its-sleeve record rather than a rainy one. Calling it euphoric is not a stretch, because the song is engineered to hit that note and it does.

That shift is what earns a curator’s attention. Plenty of acts can do overcast. Far fewer can keep the same tonal palette and make it read as joy without losing the density that makes the genre worth hearing in the first place.

The Lyric That Explains the Whole Record in Four Words

The best line on blue is “and I see in pink,” and it works on two levels at once.

Read one way, it is the rose-tinted vision of new romance, the standard distortion that affection puts over everything. Read another, it is a wink at vocalist Agness, whose pink hair is the band’s most recognisable visual signature. A lyric that describes the feeling and points at the singer in the same breath is a neat piece of writing.

The rest of the song holds that register. The narrator admits to being “clockworked to your liking,” happily reshaped by someone else, and the track treats that surrender as a good outcome rather than a warning. It is devotion without irony, which is rarer than it should be.

Where the Band Sits Between Slowdive, Alvvays and Cocteau Twins

Three reference points help. Slowdive are the obvious ancestor, and the reason is craft. They proved guitar haze could be structured rather than merely loud, and this band inherits that discipline directly.

Alvvays are the closer modern comparison, because they solved the same problem blue is solving. On Blue Rev they welded shoegaze guitar to genuinely bright pop songwriting and lost nothing on either side. Finally, Cocteau Twins belong here for production philosophy more than sound, since Robin Guthrie treated the studio as an instrument and built records that shimmer by design.

There is a practical reason the comparison holds. All three treat texture as structure rather than decoration, so the wash of sound does compositional work instead of covering for a thin song underneath. blue passes that test. Strip the reverb away and a hook, a chord movement and a lyric worth hearing remain, which is the difference between shoegaze and fog.

The Trio Behind the Track and What Came Before

hazy waters are a three-piece based in London. Agness handles vocals, Aleks produces, and Simon covers synth, and that division shows in the finished record. The synth work keeps blue from being a straight guitar song, while the production stays clean enough that the euphoria lands instead of drowning.

They are not new. Their debut EP, Watch Out For Deep Waters, arrived in June 2025, and the band has picked up coverage since, including a feature from Kool Rock Radio.

RockCharts.News curator team: “blue went into rotation because it attempts something most shoegaze bands never try. The genre’s whole toolkit is pointed at joy here, and the mix stays dense enough that it still counts as shoegaze rather than indie pop wearing the costume.”
