The Winterthur Songwriter Works One Single at a Time, and Zueri Reaches Back to 1996

Of the 36 releases filed under Dave Curl on Apple Music, 32 are singles, and Zueri is one of them. It was the eighth single since May 2024 that no EP or album has gathered up. The song itself is far older than that run. Its lyric sheet dates the first draft to 1996, a Zurich street scene in Swiss-German verses under an English chorus. The single came out on 18 February 2026.

Dave Curl’s Zueri is queued in the RockCharts.News playlist below. Every feature on him so far is gathered on the Dave Curl artist profile. Zueri came to this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, the programme that verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news desks. Queue it up, then keep reading for the seven years of releases behind it.

Before Zueri, Dave Curl Released Thirty Singles and Four Collections Starting in 2019

The catalogue opens in 2019 with Sometimes You Get Lucky and Hot Summer’s Day, followed that October by Summertime. Four more singles arrived in 2020: Cowboy, Saving Myself, Dreamsurfing and You Got Me. The last of them was credited with Holger Duechting. In March 2021 a debut album then collected all seven of those singles and added one new song, These Days.

That is the method, and it has held for most of the run since. Singles go out one at a time. A collection follows once enough of them have built up. The second cycle, for instance, produced the four-track Slave to Instinct EP in August 2022. It gathered Had Enough, Shallow Show and Tony around its title track. El Cotillo, Lost and Found, a single from August 2021, stayed outside it.

The third cycle closed with the five-track Hold Me Close EP in October 2023. It carried Angel, Serenity, a radio edit of All That I Need and Lay You Lazy, plus the title track. Shine On, from May 2023, again stayed out. A fourth collection followed in February 2024. Since May of that year, however, the singles have kept coming without one. Zueri was the eighth in that uncollected run, and another single has followed it since.

Second Takes and Genre Tags Across 36 Releases

The catalogue also shows a habit of second takes. Had Enough returned as an acoustic version two weeks after its November 2021 release. Similarly, All That I Need gained a radio version a week after its March 2023 release. Don’t Talk Anymore then shipped in May 2024 with its own instrumental.

The genre tags move too. Apple Music files 19 of the 36 releases under folk-rock and nine under rock, with Zueri among the nine. Three sit under pop. So the label on the shelf has shifted over seven years, even though the writing method has stayed put.

Zueri Sets a 1996 Zurich Lyric in Swiss German and Saves English for the Chorus

The lyric sheet titles the song sZüri, two sides to my heart. It credits Dave Curl as writer and composer and dates the first draft to 1996. Loop Solitaire, which reviewed the single, traced it to his student days in Zurich. There, an elderly man busked for spare change a few steps from the luxury shops of Bahnhofstrasse.

The verses stay in Zurich dialect. In them, businessmen with mobile phones drive slowly past the street singer. A line before the first chorus then asks whether they have forgotten how to let their hearts laugh. The chorus switches to English and carries the title phrase. One side of the heart wants to give, the other likes to take, and the old man sings along. Later, the last verse closes on the summer sun over Lake Zurich.

The arrangement keeps that story legible. Curl recorded it with his studio band: Mathias Lunde on guitars, Antonio D’Amato on bass and Dario Scotti on drums. The production came from ko-recording-arts in Germany. Loop Solitaire heard an acoustic guitar leading with a warm, defined tone. Electric guitar sits lightly behind it, and the rhythm section keeps steady time. Meanwhile Apple Music lists the single at 3:35. That is mid-range for a catalogue that runs from the 2:52 of These Days to the 4:31 of Serenity.

Reviews Arrived Within Two Weeks of the February Release

The early response came quickly. Eat This Rock made it one of its Songs of the Day on 24 February 2026, six days after release. The blog filed it under folk rock and pop rock. It also pointed to the move from dialect verses to a big English chorus. Muse Chronicle followed on 3 March. Two days later, the Spanish-language magazine Aquí Música reviewed it as an indie portrait of the city’s social contrasts. It added that Curl handles every stage of the creative process himself. There is a live record behind the single, too. Curl puts his own totals at more than 300 concerts and over 1.5 million Spotify streams.

Place Names, Summer Light and Second Takes Run Through the Dave Curl Catalogue

Read across the run, three habits connect Zueri to the earlier records. The first is place. El Cotillo, Lost and Found took its title from a village on Fuerteventura in 2021. Zueri, in turn, takes its title from the dialect name for Zurich. The second is summer. The catalogue opened with Hot Summer’s Day and Summertime in 2019. Zueri closes its last verse on the summer sun over the lake. The third is the second take. Acoustic and radio versions came first, then an instrumental, and now a song that waited three decades for release.

The street-singer song also has a long chart history, and two entries show where Zueri sits in it. Ralph McTell first recorded Streets of London in 1969 but did not release it as a UK single until 1974. McTell himself counted 212 known recorded versions of the song. His acoustic guitar storytelling is the closest template for the way Zueri puts acoustic guitar at the front. Dire Straits, meanwhile, took a busker into the charts with Walk of Life. It reached number two in the UK after its January 1986 release, and number seven in the US. Their clean, unhurried electric guitar is a fair guide to the lighter electric parts behind Curl’s verses.

That places the single for three kinds of listener. First, it suits fans of folk-rock songwriting with a full band behind it. It also suits Swiss-German speakers, who will hear the street detail exactly as it would be said. Finally, it suits anyone who keeps a playlist of songs written from the pavement.

The RockCharts.News curator team: “The acoustic guitar carries the verse and the electric parts stay underneath it. That keeps the dialect lines at the front of the mix, where every word of the street scene reads clearly.”
