Since their inception in 2022, A Rising Chapter aimed to distinguish itself in a genre rife with talent by amalgamating modern death metal’s relentless aggression with the catchy and harmonious melodies reminiscent of Europe’s rich culture in metal.
Their journey, marked by the release of two critically acclaimed EPs, “I N A N I M A T E” and “FORLORN HOPE,” has been nothing short of remarkable.
The opening track, “Hated Society,” is a bold declaration of their musical prowess. It starts with a lo-fi guitar that lulls you into a false sense of security before erupting into a maelstrom of aggressive drop-tuned guitar, ethereal synths, and dynamic drumming.
The song culminates in a devastating breakdown, filled with double bass drumming and powerful growls that set the tone for the entire EP. Following closely, “The Chosen One” offers no respite, with bass drops and breakdowns that are bound to leave listeners enthralled and wanting more.
One cannot help but draw parallels between A Rising Chapter’s innovative sound and the path forged by legends of the genre, like Slipknot and Parkway Drive. Yet, they carve their own identity, seamlessly integrating elements of traditional death metal and metalcore with a modern twist.
The third track, “System of The Damned,” encapsulates this blend perfectly with its symphony of booming snares, crashing cymbals, and syncopated guitar chugs complemented by water droplet-like synth tones, proving that metal is not just noise but a complex and rich art form.
“Nightmare,” arguably the EP’s standout track, ventures into the realm of black metal with ambient and spacey synths that pave the way for lightning-paced blast beats and tremolo picking. This track exemplifies the band’s technical skill and their penchant for creating visceral and immersive experiences through their music.
As a RockCharts.News’s music curator, it’s rare to come across a band that truly pushes the boundaries of their genre while maintaining a sound that is both accessible and deeply complex. A Rising Chapter does just that.
Their EP “Forlorn Hope” is a formidable collection of songs that deserve to be heard. It’s a sonic journey that adeptly balances the ferocity of death metal and the intricate melodies of metalcore, making it an absolute must-listen.
