Life Burns Faster Gives Metallica 24 Nights at Sphere

Metallica open Life Burns Faster at Sphere in Las Vegas on Thursday 1 October, the first of 24 shows booked into the venue across 12 weekends. The run holds to the band’s No Repeat Weekend format, so a fan who attends both the Thursday and the Saturday show of any weekend will not hear the same song twice. It closes on 13 March 2027.

The booking also carries a first. Metallica are the first metal band to play Sphere, according to Loudwire, following U2, Eagles, Dead & Company, Phish and No Doubt into the building. The residency began as eight October dates when it was announced in February and tripled in size within two weeks.

How Life Burns Faster Grew From 8 Shows to 24

The original announcement, carried by Live Nation, listed eight shows: 1 and 3, 15 and 17, 22 and 24, and 29 and 31 October 2026. Six more followed, then another ten, taking the total to 24, according to TicketNews. Every date sits on a Thursday or a Saturday, pairing each weekend’s two nights.

Between them, the additions filled the free October weekend, extended the run into November and January, and opened a February-to-March block. The full schedule, as published by Live For Live Music, reads:

  • October 2026: 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 and 31
  • November 2026: 5 and 7
  • January 2027: 28 and 30
  • February 2027: 4, 6, 18, 20, 25 and 27
  • March 2027: 4, 6, 11 and 13

That is 12 shows before the end of 2026 and 12 in 2027, with a gap of almost 12 weeks between 7 November and 28 January. October alone carries ten of the 24, which makes the opening month the densest stretch of the run.

What No Repeat Weekend Means Across 24 Shows

No Repeat Weekend is not new. It began with the 2023 kick-off of the M72 World Tour, which Live Nation says has played to more than 4 million fans from Europe and North America to the Pacific Rim and the Middle East. Each Thursday and Saturday pairing carries two different setlists, so a two-night ticket buys two separate shows rather than one show seen twice. Both two-night No Repeat Weekend tickets and single-night tickets were offered.

Across 24 nights the format becomes a test of catalogue depth. Twelve weekends means 12 pairs of setlists, each pair free of repeats, and fans who travel for more than one weekend will be tracking which songs have appeared and which are still to come. TicketNews goes further and describes the residency as having a unique setlist for every performance.

The Sphere run also lands at the end of a long stadium cycle. The M72 tour’s 2026 UK and European leg was scheduled from May to July, according to Louder, with Gojira, Knocked Loose, Pantera and Avatar among the support acts and two nights at the 80,000-capacity London Stadium. Las Vegas swaps that travelling model for one room and 24 nights.

Why Metallica Wanted Sphere

The idea started, by Lars Ulrich’s account, at someone else’s show. “About 12 seconds into the opening night of Sphere with U2 back in ’23, I thought ‘We have to do this, it’s completely uncharted territory!'” the drummer said when the residency was announced.

The venue’s selling point is its production. Sphere Entertainment describes the world’s highest-resolution LED display, which wraps up, over and around the audience, alongside Sphere Immersive Sound and multi-sensory 4D technology. Loudwire puts the cost of the building at more than $2 billion. The run is produced by Live Nation and presented by inKind.

The band has also asked fans to become part of the production. In August, Metallica invited ticket holders to upload photos of themselves at previous Metallica shows, in front of the stage, in the crowd, outside the venue or at a meet and greet, so that they can be shown on the screen during the residency, Brave Words reported. The call for the 2026 shows closed on 13 September, with a separate call for the 2027 shows to follow later in the year.

For a band whose recent shows have been built for stadiums, that is a different brief. A Sphere show is designed around the screen and the sound system rather than a touring rig, so the production has to be built for one room and then run 24 times.

Who Else Is Playing Sphere This Season

Metallica will not have the building to themselves. A schedule of Sphere residencies compiled by Billboard and republished by Yahoo in August lists the Eagles on 18 and 19 September, then on 13 and 14 November, 27 and 28 November, 4 and 5 December and 11 and 12 December, with more dates in January 2027. Backstreet Boys played their Into the Millennium residency from 1 to 22 August and are listed again for a Formula 1 afterparty on 21 November and for shows on 31 December and 1 and 2 January.

The same listing confirms the Metallica blocks as 1 to 31 October, 5 to 7 November, 28 to 30 January, 4 to 27 February and 4 to 13 March. Read together, the listings show how the room is shared across the season: Metallica’s October weekends run back to back, the November pair closes out their autumn, and their 2027 run begins only after the holiday dates held by other acts.

For fans comparing the two rock residencies, the formats differ in one obvious way. The Eagles’ dates are spread across the calendar in pairs, while Metallica’s are concentrated, with ten shows in October alone and the whole residency confined to Thursdays and Saturdays.

The Ticket Question

Demand was strong enough to triple the run within two weeks of the announcement, but the rollout was not universally welcomed. TicketNews reported that the residency faced criticism after the initial ticket sale, with many fans using social media to complain about high prices.

Price sits alongside the No Repeat Weekend offer, which is effectively an argument for buying two nights rather than one, and the calendar is built for travelling fans, with every show on a Thursday or a Saturday. The Venetian Resort, home of Sphere at The Venetian, lists VIP hotel and experience packages for the run through Vibee, including three-night stays.

A Blood Drive Opens on the Strip

The residency also carries a public-health tie-in. Metallica and the American Red Cross are running a #BleedingMe blood drive at a Metallica-themed pop-up donation centre inside Fashion Show Las Vegas, at 3200 Las Vegas Blvd. S, from 28 September to 19 March, according to Loudwire. The centre is open Monday to Friday from noon to 6pm through mid-November, with hours for the rest of the run to be announced.

Donors receive a limited-edition T-shirt designed by Squindo while supplies last and are entered for a chance to win a Tama drum kit. The space is set up to feel like a backstage area, including a seat at a replica of the kit Ulrich uses on stage, with refreshments at the Delta Backstage Lounge, FOX5 Las Vegas reports. The experience is organised with All Within My Hands, the band’s foundation, and sponsored by Delta Air Lines. “The Metallica Family has shown time and again how strongly they support blood donation,” said Rachel Flanigan, a Red Cross executive director.

What to Watch From 1 October

Three things will define the run. The first is the setlists. With 24 nights and a no-repeat rule inside each weekend, the spread of songs across the residency will show how far into the catalogue the band are prepared to go. The second is the production, since the screen and sound system are the reason the run exists. The third is the calendar: the gap between 7 November and 28 January splits Life Burns Faster into two blocks, and the February and March shows were the last to be added.

Elsewhere in October, RockCharts.News is following Queens of the Stone Age, who are three songs into Perfecth before its release on 30 October. For Metallica, the count starts on Thursday: 24 nights, 12 weekends, and no song played twice inside any one of them.
