Ten Releases in, the Los Angeles Songwriter Swaps Pop Singles for Garage-Blues Grit

No Big Deal is the tenth release in the solo catalogue of Daniel Grimsland on Apple Music, and the first the store files under blues. It arrived on 21 August 2026 and runs at about 123 beats per minute. The single folds blues, classic rock and garage rock into one guitar-led track.

Daniel Grimsland’s No Big Deal is in the playlist below with our classic rock picks, and his coverage so far sits on Daniel Grimsland’s artist profile. The single reached this desk through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news titles. Hear it once before the rest of the story.

The Run That Led Daniel Grimsland to No Big Deal, From Funk and Pop to Rock

The solo run is only part of the record. Grimsland played bass and sang backing vocals in 3, the progressive rock band formed in Woodstock, New York, from 2004 to 2025. That is a 21-year stint on the band’s documented line-up. In 2012 he also founded his own rock group, The Grape And The Grain. Originally from the Hudson Valley, he now works out of Los Angeles.

The solo catalogue starts in April 2020 with a four-track EP filed under funk. Then comes a clear sequence. First, three singles filed under pop: Hit the Road in September 2023, Sounds Like a Good Time in June 2024 and Stone Cold Beautiful in October 2024. Next, a holiday single, Rock & Roll Christmas, landed in November 2024.

In 2025 the tags moved to rock. Devils came out in February, My Trip To The Bottom in April and Move in October. That same month, a live version of Devils recorded at the Y’all Star Revue was filed under roots rock. No Big Deal makes ten.

What Changed on No Big Deal

Read the tags in order and the movement is plain: funk, pop, holiday, rock, roots rock, blues. On paper, each step moves the catalogue further from pop and closer to a live-band sound. No Big Deal is the furthest point so far.

The single pairs the drive of blues with classic rock structure and the rough edges of garage rock. It is raw and guitar-driven by design. At roughly 123 BPM it sits at a steady mid-tempo, which suits a guitar part that wants space rather than speed.

That is the change worth noting. The labels tell the story: pop for the 2023 and 2024 singles, rock for the 2025 run, and now blues. As a result, the single’s raw, guitar-driven sound gives the catalogue its clearest identity yet.

The Through-Line From a 21-Year Bass Chair to a Solo Blues Single

The through-line is the musician behind the catalogue. Grimsland’s own site lists him as a multi-instrumentalist, music producer, singer, songwriter and composer. It also carries endorsements from Tony Levin and Jerry Marotta, two long-time Peter Gabriel collaborators. Two decades in a working band leave a mark, and that mark shows most clearly on a record this direct.

For listeners placing No Big Deal on the rock map, two reference points help. George Thorogood built a career on high-energy boogie-blues, and Bad to the Bone and I Drink Alone became staples of 1980s US rock radio. That bar-room pulse is the lane No Big Deal runs in. Meanwhile, Rival Sons, formed in Long Beach, California in 2009, carried blues-based rock into the modern era. Their records show how a band can keep the grit of the form without sounding like a museum piece. No Big Deal aims for the same balance on a smaller scale.

The audience is clear. Fans of blues, classic rock and garage rock who want guitar-driven music without gloss will find the most here. The single is being pitched widely, from North America and Latin America to Europe and Asia, and the sound travels because the form does. Anyone who has followed the catalogue from its pop singles will also hear how far it has moved.

Start with No Big Deal, then go back to Devils to hear where the rock run began. Played in that order, the two singles show the catalogue’s direction better than any tag.

RockCharts.News’s curator team:

“Ten releases in, this is the first time the catalogue commits fully to the blues, and it does so without dressing it up. The mid-tempo leaves the guitar room to work, and that restraint is the reason the single holds attention.”
