Tombstone Whiskey Built Come Get Some for the Bar, Not the Algorithm

The Swift Current Band Call Themselves Blue Collar Rock and Mean It Literally

Tombstone Whiskey describe themselves the same way on every profile they run. They are an original, high-energy, blue collar rock band out of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. That sentence is useful, because it tells you what Come Get Some is and what it is not. The album arrived on 8 September 2023. Three years later, it is still working.

You can listen to our full playlist which contains the artists’ music, and know more about the artist’s work by scrolling down the page.

Tombstone Whiskey Made a Full-Length That Refuses To Pick a Decade

Come Get Some is a proper LP, not a handful of singles bundled together. Moreover, it uses the length. The band pull from alternative, classic and hard rock across the running order, and the joins are not hidden.

The classic rock element is the spine. These are riffs built to be played by a band standing in a room, not assembled on a grid. The hard rock element then supplies the weight. Meanwhile the alternative streak, closer to the 1990s than to anything current, keeps the record from sounding like a tribute act.

There is a fourth thread that is easy to miss. Underneath the volume, many of these songs are structured like country writing. You get a character, a situation, and a turn near the end. That is a Prairie tradition as much as a Nashville one. Consequently the album rewards repeat listens instead of burning out after the first chorus.

Darrin Schwartz of the band puts the intent plainly. “We poured our hearts and souls into ‘Come Get Some,’ crafting an album that truly represents our diverse rock influences,” he said. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see it continue to find new listeners and resonate with rock fans worldwide.”

Three Films, Two Hitmaker Quarterfinals and a Steady Radio Life

Independent rock albums usually live or die in their first month. However, this one has had a longer and stranger afterlife.

The band’s music has been used in three films by Dead Prairies Production. That is not the usual route for a regional rock band. Furthermore, it says something about how the songs work outside their own context. A track that sits under a scene has to carry mood without demanding attention. Not every riff-driven record can manage that.

Beyond that, Come Get Some took the band to the quarterfinals of Americas Next Top Hitmaker in two consecutive years. The album has also picked up airplay on major and independent radio. In addition, a feature in Powerplay Magazine UK is on the way.

None of that is a chart position, and the band do not present it as one. Instead it is the shape of a working rock act building an audience slowly, in the places where rock audiences actually are.

Reference Points, From The Tragically Hip To Black Stone Cherry

Three names help place the record.

First, The Tragically Hip are the Canadian touchstone. They built a catalogue on rock songs that were really short stories. Crucially, they delivered them as a band that never lost its bar-room mechanics. That combination of storytelling and unfussy playing is the closest match here.

Second, Black Stone Cherry cover the heavier half. Their records treat blue-collar identity as a musical position rather than a marketing line. Similarly, the riff weight on Come Get Some sits comfortably alongside them.

Third, Alice In Chains are the 1990s reference. The alternative streak here owes more to that era’s darker, slower guitar records than to modern rock radio.

RockCharts.News curator team: “What earns Come Get Some a slot on our list is that it was tracked like a band record. You can hear the room, the players reacting to each other, and the occasional ragged edge left in. That is increasingly rare, and it is why the film placements make sense.”

Where To Hear Come Get Some and Follow Tombstone Whiskey Across Streaming Platforms

Come Get Some is streaming in full. You can play the album on Spotify, and the wider catalogue sits on Apple Music and YouTube Music. Their other record, Devil All The Time, is available directly from the band on Bandcamp.

For new music and live dates, follow Tombstone Whiskey on Instagram, TikTok, X and Facebook. Their YouTube channel carries the videos, and their Linktree gathers every option in one place.
