A Malmö Catalogue That Started on YouTube in 2019 Reaches a Ten-Song Set for America

Hello Girl is still the most-played song in the VaterSon catalogue on Spotify, with 137,015 plays on 30 October 2026. The Malmö hard rock duo first put it on YouTube seven years ago. On 6 October, VaterSon made it the opening track of USA, Vol. 1, and six of the album’s ten songs come from The Lost Songs, their 2025 album.

VaterSon’s These City Streets is in the playlist below, and the duo’s full run of coverage sits on the VaterSon profile. USA, Vol. 1 came to RockCharts.News through PopHits.Co Music Charts, which verifies independent artists and places their releases across its network of music news desks. Press play, then keep reading for where it sits in the catalogue.

VaterSon Posted Song Videos From 2019 Onwards and Collected Sixteen Tracks on The Lost Songs in 2025

The duo is younger than the partnership behind it. VaterSon started in 2018, but Jimmy and André Drexler have played together since 1999. Before this project, they shared bands including NonWorkingGeneration and T.A.J.

Their YouTube channel opened in February 2019, and official videos followed quickly. Eastern Front came in March, Hello Girl in April, Mama in September and The Wall in November. A year later, in November 2020, a lyric video for Walk this Earth arrived.

Streaming, however, came later and one single at a time. A radio edit of Hello Girl reached Spotify in March 2023, and Cry Wolfe followed that May. Next, Fisherman and Shameless closed 2024; the second is a hard rock song about a love affair with whisky. Then I am alone again and The Poet opened 2025.

On 14 March 2025, a 16-track album put 57 minutes of music on streaming services at once. Eastern Front opened it, and the album’s title is accurate. In fact, Mama, The Wall, Wissam and White Boy had all appeared as videos years earlier. The album gave them a permanent home. After that, two more singles followed in April and May. Then Drunken Love arrived in January 2026; at 5:45, it is the longest single the pair have released.

Hello Girl and These City Streets Hold the Largest Play Counts in the Catalogue

On 30 October, VaterSon had 6,237 monthly listeners on Spotify, and five songs led their popular list. Hello Girl sat at 137,015 plays, These City Streets at 83,137 and Eastern Front at 55,717. Below them came I am who I am at 34,706 and the newest, 75 %, with 9,433 plays after 24 days. Together, those five hold 320,008 plays. The top two account for 220,152, roughly seven in every ten. As a result, a song first filmed in 2019 and a single from 2025 carry most of the plays at the top of the list.

Press attention has also followed the singles. In 2025, These City Streets drew reviews in English, French and Portuguese. Among them were Senocular Media, IGGY Magazine and Music For All. Meanwhile, Brazil’s Headbangers News wrote up Shameless.

VaterSon Cut The Lost Songs Down to Six for USA, Vol. 1 and Added the New Single 75 %

At 34 minutes and 55 seconds, VaterSon keep USA, Vol. 1 well short of the 57-minute 2025 album. Six tracks carry over at the same length: Hello Girl, Eastern Front, Trigger of a Gun, Mama, Walk this Earth and The Wall. Three more come from the 2025 singles, namely These City Streets, I am alone again and I am who I am. The tenth, 75 %, reached streaming the same day, one day after its official video went up on YouTube.

The cuts are as telling as the picks. For example, Shameless, Fisherman, The Poet and Drunken Love are all absent. So are Wissam, White Boy and I’m Not the One from that record. Meanwhile, the running order puts the two biggest numbers early, with the most-played song first and the second-most-played fourth.

The songs also have to work with two people on stage. André plays the drums and fires sequences from a Roland SPD-SX, with some live looping on top. In the studio, the credits on that fourth track split the work the same way. Jimmy wrote the words, composed the music with André and produced the track. Over the riffs sits a dark, forceful vocal.

After the release, VaterSon took USA, Vol. 1 on the road to New York State. They were billed as special guests of Texas Hippie Coalition for three nights, from 23 to 25 October. One of them was The Song & Dance in Syracuse on the 24th. That run began 17 days after the release, and the album title names the trip.

From the RockCharts.News curator team: “These City Streets sits fifth in our Rock n Roll, Classic Rock playlist, straight after The Strokes’ Last Nite. At 4:48 it is the longest song on USA, Vol. 1, and it is the track we would play first to anyone asking how much two players can carry.”

Van Halen and Local H Help Place VaterSon and USA, Vol. 1 for Hard Rock Listeners

The through-line in this catalogue is reuse. VaterSon keep returning to the same songs and presenting them again. First came YouTube videos, then a 16-track album, and now a ten-song set for America. Two better-known bands help place that habit.

Van Halen put a father and son in the same hard rock line-up. Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang joined on bass for the 2007 tour. Later, the band built seven of the 13 songs on A Different Kind of Truth (2012) from old demos. Those demos dated from the late 1970s and early 1980s, and Wolfgang helped choose them. Old songs given a new setting instead of staying in the archive is what VaterSon did in March 2025.

Local H solved the two-player problem in Zion, Illinois. Scott Lucas co-founded the band in 1987. Lucas played a guitar modified to reach down into the bass range, while Joe Daniels drummed. Their second album, As Good as Dead (1996), carried the radio hit Bound for the Floor. Likewise, Jimmy Drexler covers both parts in VaterSon by playing bass and guitar at the same time.

Start with Hello Girl, then play 75 % to hear where the duo is now. After that, go back to The Lost Songs for the sixteen-track version of the story.

Follow VaterSon on Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, and stream USA, Vol. 1 on Spotify or Apple Music.
