Interview: Ruiz! Up-and-Coming Artist Brings Psychedelic Post-Punk Sound To Pop

Will Lisil 29 September 2022

Ruiz! is a promising up-and-coming singer-songwriter whose music combines the best of the 80’s psychedelic post-punk revival, with modern indie rock.

His latest single ‘One Rule’ starts with a gentle atmosphere where you hear a soothing synth and his sweet vocals. Ruiz! masterfully leads us on a sonic journey through an alternative landscape unparalleled by any other artist — truly an experience to cherish.

Through an impressive blend of soulful vocals, layered instrumentation, and lush harmonies, ‘One Rule’ will take your mind away to a better place where you can lose yourself in the sound.

After listening to this track multiple times I am confident that Ruiz! will be an amazing artist to follow in 2022. Let’s follow his artistic transformation, from the time he experienced his artistic career as a member of different bands, to 2022 when he is a solo artist and producer.

Some years ago, when the artist moved to Sheffield as a student, he played the bass in a band called The Only Fruit.

The band played some cool gigs and recorded some awesome demos during this time. In the following years, Ruiz! was a member of A.F.I.D., which played throughout the UK, including a BBC session. The band was also a part of Sheffield Sound City.

Fallin is one of the releases from Ruiz! – 2022

Following a few tours, they parted ways with the frontman, who went to work for Pavement’s sound! Bolster followed. Former Bollweevils signed with Vinyl Solution. It was followed by three singles and a lot of fun-filled touring.

In the next phase, the Better Ford Clinic featured a lot of touring, recording, and a lot of silliness! Next came the Jim Muir Slideshow. With a track called London, they won a single of the week award in the Guardian.

Music Video of One Rule, Ruiz!’s latest release

Several national and international publications praised the band’s album, including Uncut, Q, and the Sunday Times. In addition, they toured the UK and Spain. It is evident that Ruiz! has a lot of experience as an artist and is a hard worker.

The “obLONG” project was also excellent. In addition to playing on 6Music, they released two EPS called obLONG 1&2. The recording was done at Club60 with the legendary Ross Orton (also available on Spotify). Colt – adventures in Rock’n’riot! There’s a band called The Clear that the singer has got together with, and they’ve recorded an album that’s really good as well.

Currently, Ruiz! is producing his own music and writing, recording, playing, and singing. He does everything in his small home studio in Sheffield, which he runs all on his own. Now it’s time to explore his sound. Listen to ‘One Rule,’ watch his interview, watch his music video, visit his website, and then follow him on Spotify.
